My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Hathaways ... *sigh* what a delightful family they were, which made the reading of the whole series most enjoyable. With every book, with every character, you just can't help but be pulled in and become totally engrossed with their humorous antics.
Beatrix was the most eccentric Hathaway sibling, with her absolute devotion to animals and nature, and her preference in preferring animals to human company (her family not withstanding) she was considered half-tamed, even her family keeps on describing her that way, and for some reason in infuriated me. But h how I loved her, she is my most favorite Hathaway, and she was the ultimate cure for Christopher. Usually most author make the heroine for a war savaged survivor a stern character that pulls him from the bleakness, but here LK used innocence, playfulness, and eccentricity for her heroine, which was the most perfect mix. Beatrix emitted innocence and purity that I was in total agreement with Christopher when he wanted her to stay that way forever, she faced the world straight forward never shrinking from it.
Christopher was war savaged, guilt ridden war hero, he was given things he never wanted exchange for huge price. Him inheriting an estate and an inheritance for the price of his brothers death, him receiving war medals for his chivalry in exchange for the life of his friends. After his return back home he suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which made him fidgety and edgy and tense. At first he kept insisting on Prudence and chasing after her, but after realizing that she wasn't the one he corresponded with, he wasn't slow on figuring out who was the true author of those letter, and when he did oh how cute both of them were. Beatrix was his cure and salvation, personally I felt tat her innocence and purity cleansed his soul and heart and made him more humanly alive and a sense of safeness and home.
- I loved his interaction with the Hathaway, at first he wasn't used to their way, he was disoriented in their company, later when he got used to them and become comfortable with them and in their home more than his own house.
- I loved Albert, looking at him I knew he was a sample that showed us how Beatrix will deal with his master, as she tamed the animal she tamed the master. They both needed her healing touch .. And the Hathaway. ;)
- What I liked in this book, is that it was the most humorous one of the whole series, and Beatrix even beaten Leo! I especially liked her scene with his grandfather.
Overall, *10 thumps up*
