My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is the second series by Sarah MacLean that I have read so far and I have to say I'm being enamored, her writing was so exquisite it contained all the necessary ingredient from the writing to the plot to the characters, a touch of shy/bold heroine, a sever dose of mean ass of fine specimen of male, plenty of funny comments/moments and Viola one great book.
Penelope was the abandoned fiance of the Hero from Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart, she's the quiet obedient type, but even then she looked obvious that she didn't want the engagement. I liked her, she was caring, gentle, when I read about her, I feel serene somehow she gives me this huge sense of relaxation that I can't help, even on her intense parts. I liked how she went to the gaming club from the other side, her way with the doormen, her way in ordering the men, Penelope was poor Penelope no more (that's what I liked mostly about her). She's the type that you can easily figure her emotions out, since the beginning it honestly felt that she stayed a spinster just to be with him, waiting fr him just to come back ... her Micheal.
The stupid asshole Bourne he was a cruel handsome man, will use whatever means if it was to get what he wanted, and what he wanted was through Penelope. It was cruel taunting Penelope since the beginning (even though it lessened throughout the book till it vanished entirely) that she was just a means to an end, and their marriage wasn't a love match just an act. He kept the farce for a long while, and whenever his true feelings for Penelope wanted to emerge he evaporated them, he didn't even wanted to admit that he cared for her, her feelings, her happiness, he only wanted to believe that he was a cold man. But he did care, and I loved him for that, he was the typical bad boy sort who would prefer wounding people than show how they honestly feel, but Penelope cracked his shell.
What I Noticed in the book:
- I liked that it was a continuation of the Love By Numbers series, even though it happened after a long while, but it was continuation nonetheless, were I was familiar with some of the characters, in a way it's like a reunion.
- Adored the letters parts, at first it was cute how they were so attached to each other it looked obvious through their correspondences, and later when he stopped and she kept on going, it looked like that her letters to him were a huge part of her that it took her a long long while till she finally admitted defeat and stopped.
- I liked the part when they finally reunited how happy she was seeing him, even he wasn't as enthusiastic as she was but it cracked his facade as well, she touched his cheeks and he hugged her, and oh how I loved the smack, and honestly I was a bit regretful that their wasn't more of it *snickers*
- I liked the idea of them as childhood sweethearts, even if they pretended at the beginning, it was true.
- I liked Bourne's interactions with his friends, and their interactions with Penelope and especially when they taunted Bourne about Penelope XD
Overall, *thumps up*
